Each year the park and river experience increased use. Our ongoing drought with occasion flooding and our increased use have increasing and cumulative impact on the land. While providing members access to the beauty and wonder of the park, we must also consider and plan for the management of the land and river for the long term.
Every choice we make, from protecting the banks from erosion, managing the healthy flow of the river, to where and what and how much to cut and mow and clear, requires time, money, expertise, and careful planning. We appreciate the expertise several of our members have offered, and we need it. A comprehensive plan should be developed for this and the trustees of the future. If you want to be a part of that, please attend the next meetings.
Everyone can get involved by understanding more about the Blanco Watershed, and the riparian area of which we are a part. Here’s a good overview on YouTube, and our website is available for you to write / contribute links, articles and opinions. Email here, if you have an article or resource to share.
